Clinical Global Impression - Improvement Scale (CGI-I)

The Clinical Global Impression – Improvement scale (CGI-I) is one question. A clinician who knows the person is asked: compared with how they were when treatment started, how much have they changed? The answer is a single rating from 1, very much improved, through 4, no change, to 7, very much worse.

It is deliberately global. The rating draws on everything the clinician knows — history, symptoms, behavior, circumstances, and how the condition is affecting daily function — rather than counting specific symptoms. Improvement or worsening is rated regardless of whether the clinician thinks treatment caused it.
