Everyday Technology Use Questionnaire
What It Measures
The ETUQ asks how well a person manages the technology that ordinary life now runs on — remote controls, microwaves, cell phones, ATMs, ticket machines, online banking. It exists because losing the ability to use these things quietly shuts people out of activities long before more obvious problems appear.
The interview works through more than 100 everyday technologies. For each, the person says whether it is relevant to their life, whether they use it, and how much difficulty they have. It also captures technologies they consider relevant but have stopped using — a signal that something has changed. This assessment uses Rasch analysis to track change over time meaningfully.
