What It Measures
A food preference inventory is a form a parent or caregiver fills out listing what a child actually eats: which foods they accept, which they refuse, which they used to eat and no longer will, and what a typical meal or snack looks like.
It is a starting point rather than a test. For a child with feeding difficulties, knowing that they accept crunchy foods but not soft ones, or beige foods but not colored, shapes where a therapist begins — and gives a family something concrete to work from between sessions. Most versions group foods by category and texture and leave room for notes on mealtime routines, allergies, and cultural or family food practices. There is no score.
