Reintegration to Normal Living Index

The RNLI asks whether a person has got their life back after a serious illness or injury. Not whether they can walk or dress themselves, but whether they are moving around their community, doing things they enjoy, and comfortable with the person they now are.

Eleven statements cover mobility indoors and in the community, self-care, work and school, recreation, social activity, family roles, personal relationships, and how the person presents themselves and copes generally. The first eight form a daily functioning subscale; the last three form perception of self. Each is rated on a 10 cm line anchored from "does not describe my situation" to "fully describes my situation." The total converts to a score out of 100.

Learn More: The instructions state that a wheelchair or other adaptive aid may be used when considering how to answer. The subscales are more informative than the total: the developers found that improvement in one domain can be hidden by decline in another.
