Self Perception Profile for Children (SPPC)
What It Measures
The SPPC asks children how they see themselves, in five specific areas and overall. Rather than a general self-esteem score, it separates them to reveal how perspectives vary in different areas of life.
Thirty-six items cover scholastic competence, social acceptance, athletic competence, physical appearance, behavioural conduct, and global self-worth. The question format is distinctive. Each item offers two opposite descriptions — "some kids find it hard to make friends BUT other kids find it pretty easy" — and the child first picks which group they belong to, then says whether that is sort of true or really true for them.

Learn More: Global self-worth is a separate subscale, not a total. It has its own six items asking directly about liking oneself and being happy with the way one is, and it is not calculated from the other five — which lets a clinician see whether a child's overall sense of themselves matches their domain-specific ratings.
