Water Orientation Test Alyn 2

The Water Orientation Test Alyn (WOTA) watches how comfortable and capable a child is in the water: things like adjusting to the pool, keeping balance, and moving or changing position. It's built around the Halliwick method, an approach to aquatic therapy that uses the properties of water to support movement and independence.

There are two versions: WOTA 1, for children who have difficulty following or understanding instructions, and WOTA 2, for children with higher functional abilities who can follow directions. Occupational, speech, and mental health therapists use the WOTA in outpatient aquatic therapy programs, most often with children who have autism or other developmental differences, to set water-based therapy goals and track progress over time; studies report excellent test-retest reliability for both versions.
