Nottingham Leisure Questionnaire (NLQ)
What It Measures
The Nottingham Leisure Questionnaire asks what a person does with their free time. Leisure tends to fall away quietly after a stroke — it is not a safety issue, so it rarely gets asked about, and yet it is often what a person misses most.
Thirty activities are listed, deliberately mixed: things done alone and things done with others, physically active and physically passive, indoors and outdoors. The person says how often they have done each recently, choosing never, occasionally, or regularly. An "other" line catches anything the list misses. Scores run 0 to 60, with higher totals meaning more activities done more often.
Additional Notes
Learn More: Higher NLQ scores correlate with higher scores on the Nottingham Extended ADL Scale, while lower scores are associated with living alone and worse emotional health.
